OFFICIAL INVITATION

On behalf of Dragon Boats NSW ("DBNSW"), we invite you to participate in the 2025 Sydney Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival, to be held at Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia from 7th to 9th February 2025.

The festival will be hosted and organised by Dragon Boats NSW. All IDBF Members, Dragon Boat Organisations and National Canoe Federation members are welcome to attend the festival and can enter directly by following the information below.

Our 2025 event will have 3 exciting days of competition that will be packed with dragon boat racing, music, and entertainment, located at the iconic Darling Harbour venue.

 

Competition Dates

7 - 9 February 2025

Distance

200m all races

Competition Class

Standard Boat (up to 26 competitors including reserves, Drum & Sweep, minimum 16 paddlers)

Division

Premier, Senior, 24U and Junior (under 18), BCS

Racing Classes

Open, Women, Mixed

Boat class

Standard 20s Boats for all racing, exception being 24U (10s racing in 20s boat)

Friday 7th February 2025:              Corporate Crews & Social Crews

·        Afternoon Racing (2pm - 7pm)

·        Racing Class: Mixed Crews

Saturday 8th February 2025:          Senior A, B, C & BCS

·        All day racing

·        Racing Classes: Open, Women, Mixed

·        Race Format: 2 Heats & seeded Final (dependant on crew entries)

·        Presentations

·        Opening Ceremony (eye dotting and traditional welcome ceremony)

Sunday 9th February 2025:             Premier, 24U, Junior

·       All day racing

Race Format: 2 Heats & seeded Final (dependant on crew entries)

·        Racing Classes: Open, Women, Mixed

International & Interstate Sports crews

2 days of racing across Sat 8th and Sun 9th Feb.
Registration Fee:

·       $2,200 per Opens crew

·       $2,200 per Women’s crew

$    $2,200 per Mixed crew

·       Applicable to all International and Interstate crews

  • Entry fee includes:
    • Saturday 8th February (Seniors A, B & C, BCS)
    • Sunday 9th February (Premier, 24U, Jnr)
    • Athletes’ entry into the 2-day event
  • Racing Classes: Open, Women, Mixed
  • Mixed Class Standard (20s):
    • A crew consists of a minimum of 16 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 sweep
    • A minimum of 5 to a maximum of 10 paddlers who identify as male or non-binary

Entry Fee includes:

  • Registration for one crew into the event (Corps with multiple crews must register each individually)
  • Friday 7th February (Afternoon competition): Race against other corporate & social crews
  • Up to 3 training sessions with an expert coach and qualified sweep
  • Insurance cover (for training and racing)
  • Equipment (including paddles and safety equipment)
  • Entertainment
  • Racing Class: Mixed standard 20s

 

  • CREW COMPOSITION RULES
  • All teams must consist of a minimum of 16 paddlers to a maximum of 20 and may include up to 4 reserves
  • A maximum of 50% of a crew may be made up of male paddlers
  • Teams must have a minimum of twelve (12) employees from the business organisation that the team represents. Team mangers may be required to submit evidence of employment/ownership for crew members upon request
  • Registered sports paddlers* are permitted to compete as part of the team as long as they are employees of the organisation
  • Teams may have a maximum of four (4) paddlers who are not employees, or deemed employees, of the business organisation (i.e. family, friends) but they cannot be a registered sports paddler*
  • Sweeps will be provided by DBNSW, drummers can be provided upon request

 

 

 

Additional Information

  • Additional Training Sessions: $300 per session (Bank St, Pyrmont hub only)
    • If you wish to do additional practice sessions at an alternate location, contact us at office@dbnsw.org.au to discuss.
  • If you have a DBNSW club who you would like to train you, please include in the entry form

  • Average temperatures in Sydney in Summer can range from 18oC to 35oC, Summer rain and hot winds are also common
  • Meals – there are food & beverage vendors available around the Darling Harbour area in various price categories
  • Merchandise will be available on site and online
