DBNSW Virtual Series – Race 3
Dragon Boats NSW (DBNSW) is excited to launch our Virtual Race Series in 2020/21 - lock horns against other clubs in you own back yard! How? Do it as a time trial and upload your results online. The Virtual race series will run at different times of the season and distances will be set based on seasonal performance goals. The Virtual Race Series is all about fun and bringing everyone together, no matter where you're at.
How it works: Do a time trial anywhere, any time. Track it using a GPS platform (such as Garmin Connect or Strava). Submit your result online via the DBNSW online form and it’ll go on our leader board. At the end of our virtual comp, winners in each category will be announced.
Race distance & crew size: Round 3 - 500m. Standard Boat (20s) 20 paddlers, 1 sweep, drummer optional
Categories: Junior, Premier, Senior
Racing & result recording: Use a GPS tracker such as a Garmin Forerunner, Garmin Fenix 5, Suunto Ambit 3, etc. If you don’t have a GPS device, use a mobile phone and install the Strava app (make sure you get a free Strava account). A stopwatch and an estimation can also work with an honesty system. Rolling and standing starts are all fine. Use the wind to your advantage. Be creative!
Submitting results: You must submit each entry separately, and each entry should contain times and screenshots of their GPS results (unless you only have a stopwatch). This can be done via our online form. It is currently optional to also provide results via the .gpx file type.
Submission frequency: Your club may submit results for any category as many times as you like, though we will only update if your new result is faster than your old one. We’ll update the results when we can and it can be found below.
Submission period: 20th November - 12th December 2020
Sweeping: L2 sweeps or higher. This event does not count towards L2 sweep qualifying races.
Other notes: Paddling must be in a dragon boat and no other watercraft. Trialling members are permitted to participate, please ensure waiver forms have been signed prior. Dragon boat heads & tails are not required.
Media: Finally, we would love to see lots of photos and videos of clubs racing and use them to promote the virtual series. Upload them onto your own YouTube account and send us the link. These can also be submitted alongside results as well as some stories. Use #DBNSWgoesvirtual
