2021 LUNAR NEW YEAR RACES UPDATE

Published Fri 11 Dec 2020

Hello DB Community,

DBNSW would like to provide an update on the 2021 Sydney Lunar New Year Festival scheduled for February. After consultation with the City of Sydney, the Dragon Boat Racing will not form part of the Sydney Lunar Festival Event for 2021.

While the impact of COVID-19 and corresponding health regulations continue to be scaled back, there are still a number of challenges present to enable the City to host a safe and successful regatta. Like many of you, we are disheartened by this cancellation, however we must be vigilant and maintain the health and safety of the community as priority.

We will continue to work with the City of Sydney to ensure Dragon Boat Racing is back at Darling Harbour in the future.

In the meantime, we are working behind the scenes to support a separate regatta in February for clubs only. This regatta will provide sport clubs more racing opportunities between Round 5 (17 Jan - Wolstoncroft) and the State Championships (28 Mar – SIRC). While this race will not be part of the SLF or be open to corporate teams, it is highly encouraged that clubs continue to invite previous corporate participants to trial our sport.

For our corporate friends consider getting involved with our community clubs. All clubs have approved COVID safety plans and are attending training and racing regularly. Find your local club to start a free trial and get paddling!

Further updates to be announced on the DBNSW website.
