Dragon Boats NSW (DBNSW) in association with Sydney WorldPride, Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) and Different Strokes Dragon Boat Club, is excited to stage Dragons on Darling, bringing together national and international sports clubs, corporate crews, Sydney WorldPride participants and spectators, and community members to a competitive and fun day of dragon boating at the iconic Darling Harbour Sydney on 4 March 2023.

Dragons on Darling will feature clubs and corporate racing, music, drag performers and pride themed races. This Sydney WorldPride Sports Program follows Dragon Boat Pride, a try dragon boat program delivered by Different Strokes Dragon Boat Club from 11 February.

DBNSW CEO Tony Henderson says “We welcome the staging of this dragon boat festival during Sydney WorldPride. We are committed to bring dragon boating to the wider community and to further DBNSW’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the sport.”

“We are excited to work with AusDBF, alongside Sydney WorldPride and Pride in Sport in bringing this once in a lifetime dragon boating event during the festival. We encourage everyone to join us and experience dragon boating WorldPride style,” Henderson says.

AusDBF’s Diversity and Inclusion Director Ian Gearey says “Dragon boating is for everyone. Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, whatever gender, gender identity, sexual preference, race you identify with, dragon boating is for you. We are very proud to be part of Sydney WorldPride Sports Program to give everyone the opportunity to experience and enjoy dragon boating.”

Sports clubs, corporate organisations, social groups, registered charities and survivor groups are encouraged to enter their crews and join in the day of fun and competitive spirit by visiting Dragons on Darling website.

Dragons on Darling is part of Sydney WorldPride Sports Program 2023 and is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
