Published Thu 11 Nov 2021

IDBF celebrates 30 years of dragon boating and Johnathon Taylor (commonly known as JT) recognised for his contribution to the sport of Dragon Boating in Australia by being inducted into the inaugural IDBF Hall of Fame.

The International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) celebrated its 30th anniversary with a live Facebook event last Sunday with President Mike Thomas welcoming federations from across the globe. Hosted by IDBF and DBNSW Member Belinda Chung, the event celebrated 30 fantastic years of the federation and included videos of celebrations from all member countries.

DBNSW’s special event in Sydney included a lion dancing performance from CYL at our Blackwattle Bay site, where DBNSW was joined by IDBF, AusDBF and club representatives.

The 30th anniversary event included the inaugural inductees of the IDBF Hall of Fame with DBNSW’s Jonathon Taylor (JT) one of the recipients of this honour.

“It was great to be a part of the IDBF 30th anniversary celebration event,” said DBNSW Chair Nicola Frowen, “DBNSW congratulates IDBF on their achievement as they continue to govern and promote the sport of dragon boating from an international perspective. While COVID forced the celebrations to go online, the Facebook live event was a great showpiece of the sport’s rich and diverse history, of which DBNSW was honoured to play a part in. In addition, we were very excited to hear that IDBF recognised Jonathan Taylor (commonly known as JT) for his contribution to the sport of dragon boating in Australia by being inducted into the Hall of Fame.  JT was a key driving force behind the development of dragon boating in both NSW and Australia. He was also a strong advocate in promoting dragon boating throughout Oceania, and instrumental in Australia’s successful 2007 IDBF World Championships, this award is a great recognition of his significant contribution to our sport”.

DBNSW congratulates all 11 inductees to the IDBF Hall of Fame and congratulates IDBF on its 30th anniversary.
