2021/22 Dragon Boat NSW (DBNSW) season delayed due to current COVID 19 situation
As many have read and heard over the last couple of weeks, the current situation for NSW, in particular Greater Sydney, in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic fails to subside. After much scenario planning, communication and briefings with our clubs, external stakeholders, the Office of Sport and NSW Health we have made the informed decision to delay the start of the 2021/22 race season. This decision does impact the ‘Winter Warmer’ kick off race at Dobroyd, which was due to take place Sunday 15th August, and will now be cancelled.
Whilst it was not the start of the season we had hoped for, we now look forward to launching the new season with Round 1 of the Regatta Series at Tench Reserve, Penrith on Saturday 18th September. Club entries will open soon via RevSPORT. Once registrations open, members are encouraged to get in early to help us create a timetable that best serves our paddlers. We look forward to seeing you there!
Chief Executive Officer, Tony Henderson, is eager to take learnings from last season’s COVID situation, advising “In 2020 we rallied together to ensure Dragon Boating in NSW made the best out of a tough situation and showed the power of the Dragon Boat community. We need to have trust, understanding and flexibility to start our 2021/22 season in a COVID-Safe environment.”
With the change to the start of the season, DBNSW will look to release the 2021/22 revised season calendar by the end of the month. DBNSW thanks its members and supporters for their patience and understanding, it is our intention to be back paddling as soon as the Public Health Orders allow.
Boilerplate: Dragon Boats NSW Inc. purpose is to provide governance and strategic direction over the sport of dragon boating in NSW. Dragon boating is more than just a sport.
