Sweep Clinic and Sweep Assessment Days

To Club Committees, Coaches and Sweeps,

 

The Greater Sydney Region (GSR) Sweep Coordinators have scheduled two (2) events in the coming weeks.

 

  • Saturday 20th February ... GSR Sweep Clinic (ALL Sweeps are welcome)
  • Saturday 27th February ... Sweep Assessment (for Bank Street Clubs) *

* Please note: Places are limited within IN-CLUB Sweep Assessment sessions.

 


GSR SWEEP CLINIC

A “Back to Basics” (Refresher) Clinic

Open to ALL SWEEPS, of ALL LEVELS, from ALL REGIONS.

 

Date: Saturday 20/02/2021

Time: 11:00 AM Onwards (until at least 1:00 PM)

Place: DBNSW Bank Street training site, Pyrmont

 

The Sweep Clinic has been scheduled to (a) assist Trainee Sweeps prepare for upcoming Sweep Assessment opportunities, and (b) to provide a timely ‘refresher’ to currently accredited sweeps … in response to various sweeping related incidents at the recent Point Wolstoncroft regatta.

 

The Sweep Clinic is targeted towards:

 

  • Trainee Sweeps (L0) preparing for assessments (e.g. in coming weeks).
  • Developing Sweeps (L2 > L3) requiring further guidance & additional advice.
  • Sweeps of ALL Levels (L2NR upwards) to be reminded of sweeping fundamentals.

 

The following topics are likely to covered.

 

  • Lining Up and Holding Boat Position on the Start Line.
  • Choosing the Line of Racing (staying in your lane).
  • Dealing with challenging conditions.
  • The Responsibilities of a Sweep.
  • Crew Safety is Paramount.
  • Keeping Clear Water.
  • Stopping the Boat!
  • Practicing ON-LAND Post-Capsize Head Count drills.

BANK STREET SWEEP ASSESSMENT

Bank Street Clubs only (on this occasion)

 

Date: Saturday 27/02/2021

Time: 8:30 - 10:30 AM (plus post-assessment debrief)

Place: DBNSW Bank Street training site, Pyrmont

Host: Mavericks Dragon Boat Club (Mavs)

 

  • The Sweep Assessment is being conducted as an IN-CLUB Session, hosted by Mavericks.
  • A number of Bank Street Clubs have already reached out to the GSR Sweep Coordinators.
  • These clubs will receive a preferential booking for one candidate (if requested).
  • Candidates must have logged a minimum of 20 hours of On-Water training.
  • Candidates must be considered by their club to be ‘Race Ready’.
  • Candidate allocations are limited to a total of FIVE (5) places.^
  • The majority of paddlers will be provided by Mavericks.
  • A candidate support paddler may be permitted.

 

^ Preferential allocations provided up to a maximum of five (5) candidates.

^ Arrangements may be made for additional candidates in another session.
